Urea-Formaldehyde (UF) Resins

This World Petrochemical (WP) report on UF Resins contains complete global and country supply/demand balances for the base year, the past five years and five and ten year projections. The complete report including the analyses and supply/demand tables contains approximately 155 pages. There is also a table showing all global producers, their locations, and capacities (current, historical and future) to produce UF Resins.

Abstract

Global production and consumption of UF resins in 2010 were approximately 11 million metric tons. Global capacity utilization was 55% in 2010, an increase from 2009. Global UF resins consumption is estimated to have increased by almost 7.8% in 2010 from 2009; it is expected to grow on average 5.4% per year from 2010 to 2015, and 3.4% per year from 2015 to 2020. Average global utilization rates are expected to gradually increase throughout the forecast period.

UF resins are used primarily as wood adhesives. Fibrous and granular wood applications accounted for an estimated 65% of global UF resins consumption in 2010, followed by plywood; other applications for UF resins include molding compounds, paper treating, surface coatings, and textile treating.

The following pie chart shows world consumption of UF resins by end use:
