WP Report
Propylene
This World Petrochemical (WP) report on Propylene contains complete global and country supply/demand balances for the base year, the past five years and five and ten year projections; the production and consumption analysis is separated out between refinery, chemical, and polymer grades. The complete report including the analyses and supply/demand tables contains approximately 290 pages. There is also a table showing all global producers, their locations, and capacities (current, historical and future) to produce Propylene as well as capacities for derivative products.

Abstract
Global production and consumption of propylene in 2010 were both approximately 77 million metric tons. Global capacity utilization was 78.1% in 2010, down slightly from 78.8% in 2009. Propylene consumption is estimated to have increased by 7.4% in 2010; demand is expected to average growth of around 5.0% per year from 2010 to 2015, followed by slower growth of 3.7% per year from 2015 to 2020. Average global utilization rates are expected to gradually decrease to the low-70s range during 2011-2013, then will increase gradually to the mid-80s range by the end of the forecast period.
In the supply and demand analysis, refinery grade propylene made up 9% of the total consumption in 2010, chemical grade made up 24%, and polymer grade, 67%. Refinery-grade propylene is consumed mainly for production of cumene and isopropyl alcohol. Chemical-grade propylene mostly goes into oxo alcohols, propylene oxide and acrylonitrile. Almost all polymer-grade propylene is used to make polypropylene.
The following pie charts show world consumption of refinery and chemical grade propylene by end use:
