WP Report
Phthalic Anhydride
This World Petrochemical (WP) report on Phthalic Anhydride contains complete global and country supply/demand balances for the base year, the past five years and five and ten year projections. The complete report including the analyses and supply/demand tables contains approximately 170 pages. There is also a table showing all global producers, their locations, and capacities (current, historical and future) to produce Phthalic Anhydride as well as capacities for derivative products.

Abstract
Global production and consumption of phthalic anhydride in 2010 were approximately 4.1 million metric tons. Global capacity utilization was 78% in 2010, down from 79% in 2009. Phthalic anhydride consumption is estimated to have increased by 6.6% in 2010, and is expected to grow an average of 4.4% per year from 2010 to 2015, slowing to 3.7% per year from 2015 to 2020. Average global utilization rates are expected to increase slowly to the low-90s range by the end of the forecast period.
Phthalate plasticizers accounted for 51% of global phthalic anhydride consumption in 2010, followed by unsaturated polyester resins. Other applications include the manufacture of alkyd resins and various specialty compounds.
The following pie chart shows world consumption of phthalic anhydride by end use:
