Phenol

This World Petrochemical (WP) report on Phenol contains complete global and country supply/demand balances for the base year, the past five years and five and ten year projections. The complete report including the analyses and supply/demand tables contains approximately 185 pages. There is also a table showing all global producers, their locations, and capacities (current, historical and future) to produce Phenol as well as capacities for derivative products.

Abstract

Global production and consumption of phenol in 2010 were almost 8.5 million metric tons. Global capacity utilization was 83% in 2010, down from 79% in 2009. Phenol consumption in 2010 is estimated to have increased by 7% from 2009; it is expected to average growth of 4.5% per year from 2010 to 2015, and 2.3% per year from 2015 to 2020. Utilization rates are expected to increase gradually, ranging from the low 80s to the high 80s range.

Phenol is consumed mainly for production of bisphenol A and phenolic (PF) resins, which amounted to around 44% and 27%, respectively, of its total 2010 global consumption. Other applications for phenol include caprolactam, alkylphenols, aniline and adipic acid.

The following pie chart shows world consumption of phenol by end use:
