Polybutadiene Rubber

This World Petrochemical (WP) report on Polybutadiene Rubber contains complete global and country supply/demand balances for the base year, the past five years and five and ten year projections. The complete report including the analyses and supply/demand tables contains approximately 115 pages. There is also a table showing all global producers, their locations, and capacities (current, historical and future) to produce Polybutadiene Rubber.

Abstract

Global production and consumption of polybutadiene rubber in 2010 were both approximately 2.8 million metric tons. Global capacity utilization was 79% in 2010, an increase from 75% in 2009. Polybutadiene rubber consumption in 2010 is estimated to have increased by more than 8% from 2009; it is forecast to average growth of around 4.0% per year from 2010 to 2015, and 3.6% per year from 2015 to 2020. Average global utilization rates are expected to gradually increase to the upper-80s range by the end of the forecast period.

Tire and tire products represent the major use of global polybutadiene rubber, accounting for around 71% of consumption in 2010. Modification of polystyrene (GP and HIPS) resins and ABS resins together consume approximately 15% of the total. Specialty applications for polybutadiene rubber include carboxyl- and hydroxyl-terminated BR grades, golf ball centers, non-tire rubber products, and other specialty adhesives and binders.

The following pie chart shows world consumption of polybutadiene rubber by end use:
