Abstract

Global production of natural gas in 2010 was approximately 3.2 trillion cubic meters. Natural gas demand is currently about 3.2 trillion cubic meters, and growth is expected to average 2.7% per year from 2010 to 2020.

Natural gas reserves are centered in the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the Middle East. About 95% of total natural gas consumption in 2010 was for direct fuel uses. North America was the largest consuming region in 2010 with 26% of world consumption, followed by Central and Eastern Europe. The following pie chart shows world consumption of natural gas in 2010 by region.
