Melamine-Formaldehyde (MF) Resins

This World Petrochemical (WP) report on MF Resins contains complete global and country supply/demand balances for the base year, the past five years and five and ten year projections. The complete report including the analyses and supply/demand tables contains approximately 130 pages. There is also a table showing all global producers, their locations, and capacities (current, historical and future) to produce MF Resins, as well as capacities for derivative products.

Abstract

Global production and consumption of MF resins in 2010 were both approximately 2.1 million metric tons. Global capacity utilization was 66% in 2010, an increase from 2009. MF resins consumption is estimated to have increased by 5.3% in 2010, and is expected to grow an average 5.1% per year from 2010 to 2015, followed by slower growth of almost 3% per year from 2015 to 2020. Average global utilization rates are expected to increase gradually, and reach the high-70s range by 2020.

Laminates and adhesives, the main applications of melamine-formaldehyde resins, accounted for around 44% and 17%, respectively, of global MF resins consumption in 2010. Other end uses include surface coatings, molding compounds, and paper and textile treating resins and coatings.

The following pie chart shows world consumption of MF resins by end use:
