WP Report
Maleic Anhydride
This World Petrochemical (WP) report on maleic anhydride contains complete global and country supply/demand balances for the base year, the past five years and five and ten year projections. The complete report including the analyses and supply/demand tables contains approximately 110 pages. There is also a table showing all global producers, their locations, and capacities (current, historical and future) to produce maleic anhydride, as well as capacities for derivative products.

Abstract
Global production and consumption of maleic anhydride in 2010 were both approximately 1.7 million metric tons. Global capacity utilization was 65% in 2010, a slight increase from 2009. Maleic anhydride consumption is estimated to have increased by 5.7% in 2010; it is expected to grow an average of 5.6% per year from 2010 to 2015, and 3.5% per year from 2015 to 2020. Average global utilization rates are expected to range from the high-60s range to the low-80s range throughout the forecast period.
Unsaturated polyester resins accounted for an estimated 39% of global maleic anhydride consumption in 2010, followed by 1,4-butanediol. Other applications for maleic anhydride include agricultural chemicals, malic acid, fumaric acid, lube oil additives, maleic anhydride-based copolymers, alkenyl succinic anhydrides, reactive plasticizers, sulfosuccinic acid esters, and a number of other specialty chemicals and organic intermediates.
The following pie chart shows world consumption of maleic anhydride by end use:
