Isopropyl Alcohol (IPA)

This World Petrochemical (WP) report on IPA contains complete global and country supply/demand balances for the base year, the past five years and five and ten year projections. The complete report including the analyses and supply/demand tables contains approximately 105 pages. There is also a table showing all global producers, their locations, and capacities (current, historical and future) to produce IPA, as well as capacities for derivative products.

Abstract

Global production and consumption of IPA in 2010 were both approximately 1.8 million metric tons. Global capacity utilization was 80% in 2010, an increase from 77% in 2009. IPA consumption is estimated to have remained flat in 2010 from 2009; it is expected to average growth of 2.8% per year from 2010 to 2015, slowing to 2.6% per year from 2015 to 2020. Average global utilization rates are expected to range from the low-80s range to the high-80s range throughout the forecast period.

Solvent uses accounted for over 60% of global IPA consumption in 2010, followed by acetone production. Other applications for IPA include intermediates production such as methyl isobutyl ketone (MIBK), methyl isobutyl carbinol (MIBC), isopropylamines, isopropyl acetate, and isopropyl acetate.
