WP Report
Formaldehyde (37% solution)
This World Petrochemical (WP) report on Formaldehyde contains complete global and country supply/demand balances for the base year, the past five years and five and ten year projections. The complete report including the analyses and supply/demand tables contains approximately 285 pages. There is also a table showing all global producers, their locations, and capacities (current, historical and future) to produce Formaldehyde, as well as capacities for derivative products.

Abstract
Global production and consumption of formaldehyde in 2010 were both almost 29 million metric tons. Global capacity utilization was 68% in 2010, down from 2009. Formaldehyde consumption is estimated to have decreased by 7.9% in 2010; it is forecast to grow an average of 5.0% per year from 2010 to 2015. Average global utilization rates are expected to increase gradually after 2010 and reach the low- to mid-80s by 2020.
Production of urea-, phenol-, and melamine-formaldehyde (UF, MF, and PF) resins is the major use of formaldehyde, accounting for 66% of total global consumption. UF resins, the largest end-use, consumed just over half of total global formaldehyde in 2010, followed by PF resins. Other applications for formaldehyde include the manufacture of polyacetal resins, MDI, and acetylenic chemicals.
The following pie chart shows world consumption of formaldehyde by end use:
