Ethylene Glycol

This World Petrochemical (WP) report on Ethylene Glycol contains complete global and country supply/demand balances for the base year, the past five years and five and ten year projections. The complete report including the analyses and supply/demand tables contains approximately 190 pages. There is also a table showing all global producers, their locations, and capacities (current, historical and future) to produce Ethylene Glycol, as well as capacities for derivative products.

Abstract

Global production and consumption of ethylene glycol in 2010 were both an estimated 19.9 million metric tons. Global capacity utilization was 79% in 2010, a slight decline from 2009 due to a larger capacity expansion than production. Ethylene glycol consumption is estimated to have increased by 10% in 2010; it is forecast to grow an average 4.3% per year from 2010 to 2015, slowing to around 3.3% per year from 2015 to 2020. Average global utilization rates are expected to range from the high-70s range to the mid-80s range throughout the forecast period.

The major end uses of ethylene glycol are to make PET melt, which accounted for 83% of total ethylene glycol consumption in 2010, and antifreeze, at around 7% of total consumption.
