Ethylene Dichloride (EDC)

This World Petrochemical (WP) report on EDC contains complete global and country supply/demand balances for the base year, the past five years and five and ten year projections. The complete report including the analyses and supply/demand tables contains approximately 155 pages. There is also a table showing all global producers, their locations, and capacities (current, historical and future) to produce EDC, as well as capacities for derivative products.

Abstract

Global production and consumption of EDC in 2010 were both approximately 33.5 million metric tons. The average global capacity utilization was about 73% in 2010, a slight increase from 2009. EDC consumption is estimated to have increased by around 1.3% in 2010; it is forecast to average growth of 3.9% per year from 2010 to 2020. Average global utilization rates are expected to gradually increase throughout the forecast period.

Over 95% of EDC is consumed in the production of vinyl chloride monomer for polyvinyl chloride (PVC) resin production. Other very small uses for EDC include chlorinated solvents, ethyleneamines, and vinylidene chloride.
