WP Report
Adipic Acid
This World Petrochemical (WP) report on adipic acid contains complete global and country supply/demand balances for the base year, the past five years and five- and ten-year projections. The complete report, including the analyses and supply/demand tables, contains approximately 104 pages. There are also tables showing all global producers, their locations, and capacities (current, historical and future) to produce adipic acid, as well as capacities for derivative products.

Abstract
Global production and consumption of adipic acid in 2010 were both almost 2.2 million metric tons. Global capacity utilization was 81.7% in 2010, which increased significantly from 67.7% in 2009. Global adipic acid consumption in 2010 increased by 12% from 2009; consumption is expected to recover to average growth of around 4.1% per year from 2010 to 2015. Utilization rates are expected to slowly increase from the low-80s range to the high-80s range by the end of the forecast period.
The largest consumption category of adipic acid is nylon 66 plastics and fibers with nearly half of global adipic acid consumption in 2010, followed by polyurethanes. Another use for adipic acid is in the production of plasticizers.
The following pie chart shows world consumption of adipic acid by end use:
